The Magic of School Libraries in Promoting Reading Cultures

Libraries introduce new ideas and open up new worlds. For many schools in rural areas, they offer the only opportunity for students to access books and experience the joy of reading.

However, many school libraries lack the funds to maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive collection. Students often face empty shelves and outdated, tattered, or inappropriate second-hand books, making it difficult for them to discover the transformative power of knowledge.

We are committed to supporting libraries in developing countries by providing high-quality, age-appropriate books. By enriching these libraries, we aim to foster a love of reading and learning, opening doors to endless possibilities for young minds.

How We Operate

We aim to help as many school libraries as possible highlight their magic and the transformative power of books. By providing brand-new, high-quality books to libraries in need, we enable students to experience the joy and benefits of reading. Here’s how we work:

Direct School Engagement

We work directly with schools to identify school libraries in need of our support.

Book Wish Lists

We gather book wish lists directly from school libraries, carefully curated in collaboration with librarians and teachers to meet the needs of their students.

Publisher Partnerships

We negotiate with publishers for discounted book prices, in return to help their books reach schools and communities in needs.

Fundraising Initiatives

Through our Adopt a Book campaigns, we aim that 100% of your donations go directly towards purchasing books. We raise separate funds to cover our operational costs.

Our Partners

At A Thousand Hopes, one of our core operational principles is to support what communities truly need. We deeply value open conversations and feedback from the communities we serve to ensure that we provide exactly what’s necessary for their growth.

Pedagogical Partners

Our projects are rooted in the needs of local communities, particularly schools. To achieve this, we work closely with school principals, librarians, and educational experts to listen to their challenges and identify how we can help. These partnerships ensure that our efforts align with the educational priorities of each community we serve.

Book Publisher Partners

A key to the success of our Adopt a Book program is our partnerships with local book publishers. These partnerships enable us to bring new, age-appropriate books in local languages to school libraries. Many of our publisher partners offer generous discounts for our upcoming projects, allowing us to maximize the impact of every donation. In return, we help publishers reach communities that would otherwise be out of their reach, giving them the opportunities to contribute to a greater cause.

This year, we are excited to partner with Tre Publishing House and Dinh Ti Books for our first pilot projects with 30 – 50% discounts on each book,  stretching each donation further and providing more books that will spark curiosity, inspire dreams, and empower futures.
