About Us

One Student at a Time! One Book at a Time!

The Focus of our Efforts

In the heart of A Thousand Hopes lies a journey inspired by compassion and a shared vision for a brighter future. It all began with a simple belief that education is the key to unlocking a world of possibilities. Founded by a group of dedicated team with a mission to make a lasting impact on the lives of needy children and youths in underserved areas of developing countries, our organization has grown from a shared dream to a beacon of hope.

Driven by the desire to bridge educational gaps and empower underserved communities, we embarked on a mission to support libraries that serve as sanctuaries for knowledge and imagination. Each page turned, each story shared, becomes a stepping stone towards a more promising tomorrow.

As we weave our narrative, we are committed to not only supporting physical spaces for learning but also offering scholarships and bursaries that open doors to educational opportunities. A Thousand Hopes envisions a world where every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the chance to embrace the transformative power of education.

Join us in our story – whether you are from anywhere across the globe – and become a vital chapter in the tale of a thousand hopes being realized. Together, we can build a legacy of empowerment, one library, one scholarship, and one bright future at a time.

We are registered in Sweden as a non-profit organization (ideell förening), with organization number 802546-4226, since Feb 2024.

Our Team

A Thousand Hopes is driven by a very small, dedicated team working to improve education, one book, one student at a time. Being new, and with almost no external fundings, our three team members in Sweden volunteer part-time, covering everything from program, partnerships development, compliance, system development, content management, translations, SEO to fundraising, donors engagement and finance. We’re supported by a wonderful advisor, also another board member, based in Denmark, a retired librarian,  who certainly believes deeply in the power of books through entire amazing career.

On the ground in Vietnam, our wonderful local coordinator (also working on volunteer basis) manages operations and connects with schools to ensure every donation has the greatest impact. Together, we work tirelessly to reach more schools in need, creating solutions to bring the joy of reading to students, one book and one student at a time.

A Dedicated Focus on Impact

We’re committed to maximizing impact in every project we undertake and every community we serve. Through honest assessments, we openly share results—positive or challenging—with our donors. We also recognize that educators should always focus on teaching, so we’re developing a streamlined system to make updates and impact assessments easier for schools, educators and librarians. Stay tuned as we work to build a more efficient follow-up process that empowers both donors and educators.

Our Story

A Thousand Hopes was born from a simple idea and inspiration: Books should be available, accessible and affordable to everyone, and that access to books and quality education can change lives. Inspired by personal experiences of limited resources and a lifelong passion for reading, our founder envisioned a way to bring meaningful, lasting change to underserved schools and communities. With the support of a small team who shares her love for books and social impact, A Thousand Hopes set out on a mission to empower young minds, one book at a time.

Starting our first projects in Vietnam, where many rural school libraries struggle with outdated or limited resources, we work directly with schools to fulfill their specific needs. Through our Adopt a Book program, each donation goes toward books that are much needed — books that inspire, educate, and open doors to new opportunities. Our team, though small, is dedicated to creating real impact, with a vision to expand across borders and bring hope to more children worldwide.

Our Journey

A Thousand Hopes began with our founder, Hong, whose passion for community service and education has taken her across Vietnam, Singapore, the US, and Sweden. Since 2012, she has volunteered in impactful projects in Indonesia, Nepal, Singapore, and Vietnam, where she saw firsthand the power of education and the barriers faced by underserved communities.

Together with two like-minded co-founders who share her belief in the transformative power of books and learning, A Thousand Hopes idea started. We may be new, but from day one, we’ve been committed to doing things right. Our focus is 100% on meaningful impact and quality in each project, rather than rapid scale.

Here’s a look at our humble journey so far.

Our Partners

At A Thousand Hopes, one of our core operational principles is to support what communities truly need. We deeply value open conversations and feedback from the communities we serve to ensure that we provide exactly what’s necessary for their growth.

Pedagogical Partners

Our projects are rooted in the needs of local communities, particularly schools. To achieve this, we work closely with school principals, librarians, and educational experts to listen to their challenges and identify how we can help. These partnerships ensure that our efforts align with the educational priorities of each community we serve.

Book Publisher Partners

A key to the success of our Adopt a Book program is our partnerships with local book publishers. These partnerships enable us to bring new, age-appropriate books in local languages to school libraries. Many of our publisher partners offer generous discounts for our upcoming projects, allowing us to maximize the impact of every donation. In return, we help publishers reach communities that would otherwise be out of their reach, giving them the opportunities to contribute to a greater cause. In 2025, we are excited to have Kim Dong as a new partner to join with Tre Publishing House and Dinh Ti Books  with discounts on each book,  stretching each donation further and providing more books that will spark curiosity, inspire dreams, and empower futures.

Our Supporters

We are proud to receive invaluable support from our supporters — Microsoft, Google, Canva, and Adobe—through their nonprofits programs. These powerful tools enable us to operate efficiently with minimal overhead, as we dedicate 100% of donor contributions directly to our programs, while raising separate funds for operational costs.

Their support goes beyond just providing tools; it’s a testament to their belief in our mission. With their supports, we are empowered to make a greater impact, knowing we are not alone in our commitment to bring education and hope to those in need.

Our Current Project

Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary School, Phu Thien District, Gia Lai Province

Nestled in the remote commune of Ia Yeng in Gia Lai province, Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary School serves 297 students with over 97% of whom are from ethnic minority communities. With 85 students coming from low-income or near-poor households, access to educational resources is not just limited. It’s scarce.
